I’m thrilled that several former doctoral students of mine have published their outstanding books in the last year. Maria Montalvo’s Enslaved Archives: Slavery, Law, and the Production of the Past is out soon from Johns Hopkins University Press.
Blake Earle’s The Liberty to Take Fish: Atlantic Fisheries and Federal Power in Nineteenth-Century America came out last year from Cornell University Press, with a must-see dedication page.
And Whitney Nell Stewart’s This is Our Home: Slavery and Struggle on Southern Plantations is out from University of North Carolina Press. This year it won the 2024 Ramirez Family Award for Most Significant Scholarly Book for Texas Institute of Letters. Very proud to know and have worked with all three of these excellent historians. 📚
